James is a globally recognised AWS cloud leader with extensive expertise spanning cloud strategy, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, training and certification, and AWS Partner ecosystem management. His career in technology began long before the emergence of cloud computing, with deep foundations in Linux, open-source technologies, IT operations, digital security, and large-scale distributed systems.
For more than a decade, James led the global AWS practice for a multinational consulting organisation, growing and supporting a practice of over 1,600 cloud professionals across 13 countries. In parallel, he served as the Global AWS Alliance Lead, managing the strategic AWS partnership for a business generating more than US$4 billion in annual revenue and leading the organisation to achieve multiple AWS Competencies and strategic partnership milestones.
James has made significant contributions to the AWS community throughout his career. He was a founding AWS Partner Ambassador, served as an AWS Certification Subject Matter Expert, contributing to the development of AWS certification exams, and has been a regular presenter at AWS Summits, partner events, and user groups across the Asia-Pacific region.
Holding nine AWS certifications and maintaining AWS certification continuously since the earliest days of the program, James is recognised as one of the world’s most experienced and longest continuously AWS-certified professionals.
Today, through Nephology, James provides independent AWS consulting, cloud strategy, architecture reviews, governance, security advisory, and executive guidance to organisations seeking practical, vendor-informed expertise. His philosophy is simple: deliver advice that is always in the client’s best interests, enabling organisations to make confident, well-informed cloud decisions.
